Leading role in new European actions!

Olympiacos conitnues to be innovative at all levels on and off the field.

The announcement of the results of the Erasmus+ European programme has demonstrated the club's leadership in sport and social activities at European level funded by the European Commission. The credibility and professionalism of the Olympiacos staff have been rewarded by the European Commission once again as the club is expected to participate in 4 new projects in 2020. The credibility has been proved by both the 7 projects that Olympiacos has participated in since 2014 having the coordinating role in three of them, as well as the leading role in the premises of the European Multisport Club Association (EMCA).

Concerning the new projects, these are interesting actions aimed at promoting sport for all and the social integration of vulnerable social groups. Olympiacos has a coordinating role in one of them, and its presence in the rest ones is crucial to the further dissemination of the messages and values that they represent.

The 2020 projects that Olympiacos will participate in are:

Disability Water Sports

Duration: 12 months (01/01/2020 – 31/12/2020)

Participants: Olympiacos (Coordinator), Lazio, Sport Management, Red Star

The overall objective of the project is the social integration of people with disabilities and their involvement in water sports. In the process of education in general, and especially in physical education, it is important that these people have different abilities. Attitudes about these people's participation in physical education and sport in different settings (schools, sports clubs, etc.) play an important role in the overall process of improving the acceptance of these people in society. The spirit of the Paralympic Games is in line with the development of a new positive attitude towards people with disabilities, the awareness of the right to equal participation, recognition of the status and determination of these athletes. The effort of athletes with disabilities is worthy of admiration. In this project, the partners are expected to organize water sports activities such as water polo, sailing, rowing, swimming for people with disabilities under the guidance of their professional trainers and athletes.

Sport & Diabetes

Duration: 30 months (01/01/2020 – 30/06/2022)

Participants: Bayer Leverkusen (Coordinator), Olympiacos, HASK Mladost, International Diabetes Federation, Lazio, Wiener

The project enables children with diabetes to do sport and continue when diagnosed by educating all stakeholders how to handle risk concerning diabetes and reduce fears that lead to exclusion of children with diabetes. A lot of children stop doing sports when they are diagnosed due to various reasons. Predominantly, it is either the fear of the parents of the children or the lack of knowledge of coaches and teacher in how to handle children with diabetes. The project aims to create a comprehensive and easily understandable publication which explains everything about doing sport with diabetes in a simple way so that people that do not have knowledge about diabetes can understand the content. Such publication in various languages does not exist on big international level.

APPLE:

Duration: 18 months (01/01/2020 – 30/06/2021)

Participants: Lazio (Coordinator), Olympiacos, Levski - Sports For All, Feyenord, Red Star, Aalborg, Hask Mladost, EPSI, Pontevecchio Bologna

The project aims to raise the awareness of European citizens, especially young people and children, of the importance of practicing and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. This will be achieved through a series of seminars and active learning in schools and meetings with relevant stakeholders. These activities focus not only on promoting sport but on health in the wider perspective. Working with young people is vital to improving the health conditions of today's and future society.

First time in the program “Horizon 2020”!

This year's results have provided even more success for Olympiacos as the club will be participating in the program “Horizon 2020” for the first time. This delightful result justifies the intense presence in the European initiatives and enhances the club's prestige in social activities. This project is in the category of IT and new technologies. Specifically:

Data Vaults

Duration: 36 months (01/01/2020 – 31/12/2022)

Participants: Fraunhofer (Coordinator), Olympiacos, ATOS, Danmarks Tekniske Universitet, Artificious, Infineon Technologies, Suite5, Assentian Europe, ETA Consulting, Gioumpitek, Fundacion Tecnalia Research, Maggioli SPA, A7 Software, Comune Di Prato, My Energia, Municipality of Piraeus

The goal of the project is to develop a secure platform that can handle personal data coming from different sources such as smart mobile devices, wearables, sensors, medical records, ergonomic tests etc. Each member of the platform will be able to authorize collecting data about him / her and through this, will gain complete control while allowing him / her to safely share his / her selected data with third parties.

But Olympiacos' European presence does not stop there. The club prepares new ideas and partnerships with European sports organizations that are expected to be submitted to the European Commission in 2020.
