Olympiacos secured the qualification!

The big game of Group A turned into a lopsided contest as Olympiacos was too strong for Brescia (ITA) this time. Having an excellent performance, Olympiacos beat Brescia 13-6 in Papastrateio and secured the qualification to the final-8 of the Champions League. The next game is against Dynamo Moscow on Saturday 28 April.

Key action:

The Italians could hold on towards the end of the first period but in the second the Greeks started rolling. From 3-2 they rocketed to a 7-2 lead while Brescia missed three man-ups. Being five goal down in Piraeus at the halfway mark has never promised too much for any visiting team and miracles didn’t happen this Wednesday either. Olympiacos won by seven (Konstantinos Genidounias netted 6) and secured its spot in the F8 and enjoy a four-point lead with two rounds to go while sitting in the first position.

Thodoris Vlachos said: ‘’We did another important victory. I was expecting a harder game. The players were tired in the last weeks because of the games with the national team but were good today. We had a good rhythm, were good on defense and secured the qualification to the final-8. We will be on the top of the Champions League for the third consecutive year and we will compete for the trophy which is very important for the club and the fans who want to celebrate for the successes. I expect that my players will continue at the same level and do their best.’’

Genidounias stated: ‘’Olympiacos couldn’t lose at home. This is what we try to achieve every year. Today, we started and finished the game strongly which we have to day in every game. We ensured the qualification but we have to finish in the first position. We need another victory and go to Moscow for the positive result.’’
